About Heart, Body & Soul

Heart, Body & Soul, Inc. (HBS) is a Brooklyn-based nonprofit dedicated to improving physical and mental health outcomes for Black men through culturally grounded programming, education, and community engagement.

Heart, Body & Soul, Inc. (HBS) is a Brooklyn-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to addressing the physical and mental health disparities impacting Black men in underserved communities. Founded in 2022, HBS was created to bridge the gap between Black men and the healthcare system by increasing access, improving communication, and empowering individuals to take ownership of their health.

Through a multifaceted, community-centered approach, HBS brings together medical professionals, holistic practitioners, fitness experts, and community leaders to deliver culturally responsive programming that meets Black men where they are.

Through year-round initiatives, monthly programming, and large-scale community experiences, HBS continues to expand access to care, normalize conversations around health, and build pathways to long-term wellness.

Our Approach

Heart, Body & Soul’s work is grounded in four core pillars designed to address the interconnected determinants of health for Black men.

  • We connect Black men to healthcare providers, screenings, and essential resources, emphasizing early detection and preventative care.

  • We equip Black men with the knowledge and tools needed to better understand their health and make informed decisions.

  • We create culturally grounded spaces for open dialogue by connecting Black men with trusted medical professionals and community leaders.

  • We provide direct opportunities for Black men to take control of their health through screenings, wellness services, and community-based care.

OUR
Leadership

CHRIS WILLIAMS, Founder & CEO

Christopher Williams is the Founder and CEO of Heart, Body & Soul, Inc., a Brooklyn-based nonprofit focused on improving health outcomes for Black men. His work is deeply personal, shaped by his own health journey, including multiple heart attacks and stage III appendiceal cancer, which led him to reimagine his life’s purpose and advocacy.

Motivated by systemic healthcare disparities, Christopher founded HBS in 2022 to address gaps in access to care, nutrition, and culturally relevant health education. Through HBS, he has created platforms that connect Black men with trusted medical professionals and wellness resources, encouraging open dialogue and proactive health practices.

With over 25 years of experience across media, events, and operations, Christopher brings a multidisciplinary approach to building community-driven health solutions.

Our Programming

Heart, Body & Soul delivers year-round programming designed to meet Black men at every stage of their health journey. Through a mix of signature events and recurring monthly experiences, HBS creates culturally grounded spaces that prioritize access, education, and community connection.

  • Signature Event

The Black Man’s Health Festival® is HBS’s flagship, large-scale community experience dedicated to celebrating, uplifting, and supporting Black men through holistic health and wellness. Hosted annually in Brooklyn, the festival brings together hospitals, medical professionals, community organizations, and wellness practitioners to provide free access to screenings, resources, and services.

The event blends traditional and nontraditional approaches to care, featuring fitness classes, mental health support, holistic healing services, and culturally relevant programming designed to nourish the mind, body, and soul. As the festival continues to grow, HBS is expanding its reach nationally to bring this model to cities across the country.

  • Signature Event

Hooping for Healing is a dynamic, co-ed wellness experience that uses the power of sport to engage Black men and boys, alongside the broader community, in conversations around mental, physical, and emotional health. Timed alongside National Suicide Prevention Month, the event features 3-on-3 basketball tournaments, health screenings, and access to culturally responsive wellness resources.

Beyond the court, Hooping for Healing transforms recreational spaces into wellness hubs, where participants can engage with healthcare providers, peer educators, and community partners. By combining competition, community, and care, the event creates an accessible and impactful entry point into health awareness, connection, and action.

  • Signature Monthly Programming

Vitals & Vision is a monthly health conversation series designed to empower Black men and their communities to take ownership of their health, legacy, and longevity. Each session creates a safe, culturally grounded space for open dialogue on critical topics including heart disease, mental health, cancer, and preventative care.

Led by medical professionals, survivors, and wellness leaders, the series blends education with lived experience, offering practical tools, real conversations, and on-site resources. More than a discussion, Vitals & Vision is a movement toward shifting the narrative from silence to strength and from awareness to action

  • Signature Monthly Programming

Walk & Talk is a recurring wellness experience that encourages Black men to prioritize both physical movement and mental well-being through community. Each session brings participants together for guided walks, light fitness, and meaningful conversations centered on stress, resilience, and personal growth.

By combining movement with connection, Walk & Talk creates a space where men can reflect, recharge, and build relationships rooted in accountability and support. The experience fosters a growing community of individuals committed to improving their health one step at a time.
